A Survey of Suzhou Gardens Administration Bureau

　　Suzhou Gardens Administration Bureau is an executive department in charge of scenic areas, gardens, and afforestation of Suzhou city (Office of Suzhou Afforestation Committee and Suzhou gardens Administrative Bureau handle official business jointly). It consists of thirty one basic units including eleven scenic area and garden administrative offices, eighteen enterprises and institutions with a total cadres and staffs of two thousand odd.

　　Eleven scenic area and garden administrative offices are in charge of eighteen scenic and garden sights. They are: Humble Administrator’s Garden Administrative Office; Lingering Garden Administrative Office(Garden of Cultivation and Couple’s Retreat Garden); Master of Nets Garden Administrative Office(Surging Wave Pavilion); Lion Forest Garden Administrative Office(Garden of Pleasance); East Garden Administrative Office; Tiger Hill Scenic Area Administrative Office(Mountain Villa With Ten of Thousands Sceneries); Three Sights Administrative Office of Panmen Gate; Stone Lake Scenic Area Administrative Office; Tianpin Hill Scenic Area Administrative Office; Suzhou Park Administrative Office and Canal Park Administrative Office.

　　Twenty enterprises and institutions are: Classical Garden Architecture Company(Zhonghu Construction Company); Landscape and Garden Development Company(Garden Color Painting Company and Housing Maintenance Station); Landscape Architecture Corporation of China, Suzhou Branch; Suzhou Afforestation Development Co.Ltd.; Garden Travel Service Company(Guest House); Flower, Tree and Bonsai Company; Golf Club; Garden Designing Institute; Garden Scientific Research Institute; Technical School; Seed Field; Afforestation Administrative Station; Garden and Afforestation Supervision Unit; Astronomy Station for Youngsters; Cadre-training Class; "Suzhou Gardens" Editorial Department.

　　Academic people’s bodies are: Suzhou Landscape and Garden Institute; Suzhou Flower and Bonsai Association; Suzhou Nationality Architecture Institute.

　　The cause of Suzhou scenery, gardens and afforestation enthusiasticly enforce the principle "Good protection, Good planning, Good construction and Good Management" required by the state. The protection, construction and management of gardens and scenic areas are making a great progress. Annual average admissions total about eight million odd including six hundred thousand odd foreign tourists. Urban afforestation makes a breakthrough while the afforestation coverage rate is 25.6 percent and per capita public green land is 4.6 square metres. The planning and construction work of scenic areas also develops a lot. Project operations of gardens and afforestation, gardening projects domestic and abroad, planning and designing also are spreading by leaps and bounds.
